Business minister pushed on number affected by benefits freeze

A future Conservative government would freeze benefits paid to people of working age for two years, George Osborne has told his party's conference.

Mr Osborne said the proposed freeze, which would not include pensions, disability benefits and maternity pay, would save £3bn.

Business minister Matthew Hancock, interviewed by the BBC at the conference in Birmingham, struggled when he was pressed on how many households would be affected by the benefits freeze.
